Wyoming football falls to 0-3

The Wyoming Cowboys football team remains winless after losing Saturday to Cal-Poly 24  to 22.  

Cal Poly's Deonte Williams rushed for 187 yards, including a 65-yard score on the game's fourth play.

Wyoming rallied from an early 14 point deficit to lead 15-14 at the half.   But without injured Quarterback Brett Smith, the Cowboys struggled to get much going on offense and the defense struggled for the third straight game.

Wyoming begins the 2012 football season at Texas

The Wyoming Cowboys football team begins play Saturday (today) at nationally ranked Texas.

The Cowboys lost to the Longhorns in Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen’s first two seasons.  He says his team is better this year, but they will have to prove it.

It’s just a different team, we’ve got more depth, we are just a better football team.  Texas is a good team too, as they have been every time we’ve played them.  Our kids have competed well for a half both times we’ve played them.  Our challenge is that we’ve got to go out and compete well for 60 minutes.

Cowboys get ready for #15 Texas

The Wyoming Cowboys football team opens the season at nationally ranked Texas Saturday night.  The Cowboys have spent the offseason trying to fine tune their defense, which struggled at times last season.  Head Coach Dave Christensen says his defense is showing improvement.

“I like our guys in the secondary; I think they’ve practiced well.  Not as experienced at linebacker, is probably the one place where we will gain experience as we go along. I like the way we’ve been playing up front with our defensive line.  Now we have to go out and get it done on Saturday afternoon’s.”

Wyoming football coach will sign a five year extension

University of Wyoming coach Dave Christensen says he has agreed in principle to a new, five-year
contract.  Christensen and athletic director Tom Burman confirmed the agreement Saturday, the day the Cowboys were beaten by Temple 37-15 in the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, N.M.

 Burman said that Christensen would get a substantial raise. No other details of
the pending contract were announced. Burman says he expects the contract to be finalized this week.

The Wyoming Cowboys are excited to be bowl eligible

     The Wyoming Cowboys football team has reached a goal, but the head coach says there is more to do.  With Saturday’s 31-10 win over New Mexico, the Cowboys became eligible for a post season bowl game with a 7-3 record.  It’s a goal that few thought was possible with Wyoming starting a freshman quarterback and several other young players.  But Head Coach Dave Christensen said Saturday that he always believed.
