Laramie, WY – A Sheridan man will not face the death penalty for a brutal murder there last summer. 23-year-old Stephen Hyatt pleaded guilty this week to murder and kidnapping charges in the death of 18-year-old Kaleigh Ford. Under a plea agreement, Hyatt will spend the rest of his life in jail. Sheridan County Attorney Matt Redle says the deal came after questions about Hyatt's mental health. Four experts evaluated Hyatt and all had differing opinions. Given that, and what he thought was a borderline capital case, Redle thinks they made the right decision. Redle says Ford's parents supported accepting the plea agreement, and he thinks that will help the community accept the deal, as well.
