Wyoming Man Is Heard By The Supreme Court

Washington D-C – A lawyer for a Wyoming rancher told the
U-S Supreme Court today that his client should be allowed to sue
individual federal workers for harassment and retaliation under
federal racketeering law.
Thermopolis rancher Harvey Frank Robbins maintains that
employees with the U-S Bureau of Land Management pulled his grazing
permits and otherwise persecuted him to try to get him to give the
government road access.
Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe argued the case for
Robbins.

Honaker Says Personal Views Will Not Impact His Ability To Judge

Rock Springs, Wy – Today (Monday), Rock Springs attorney
Richard Honaker was announced as the Bush administration's nominee
for a U-S District Court judgeship in Wyoming.
But 16 years ago, when he served in the Legislature, Honaker was
the author of a bill that would have imposed the nation's toughest
restrictions on abortion.

State Forester Worried About The Fire Season

Cheyenne, Wy – Because of an early snow melt and the sudden lack of new moisture, the state forester says he is nervous about the upcoming fire season. Bill Crapser says it is possible that last years busy fire season could be even worse this year. But Crapser says they are trying to prepare for it the best they can at the state level. Crapser says they have worked out an agreement with South Dakota and other states to try and enhance regional firefighting efforts. He says they are also working on a campaign to reduce fire dangers across the state.

Schweitzer Will Testify About Bison In Wash., D.C.

Laramie, WY – Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer will take his bison complaints to Washington, DC next week, to testify before the House subcommittee that oversees national parks. Schweitzer says he'll ask for money to help establish some kind of "buffer zone" for bison around Yellowstone National Park. He also plans to tell the subcommittee that the federal government needs to reform how it manages bison, to reduce the risk of brucellosis spreading to cattle herds in Montana.

Snowmobiles in Yellowstone Didn't Reach Limit

Laramie, WY – More people rode snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park this winter than in the past several years. But even the busiest day didn't approach the daily limit of 720 snowmobiles allowed in the park. On average, 299 snowmobiles entered the park between December and March 11th, when the winter season ended. Last year the average was 253. The busiest day this season was December 28th, when 542 snowmobiles entered. That's well below the daily limit of 720, that's been in place since 2004.

U.W. Nordic Ski Team Cleans Up

Laramie, WY – The dynasty that is the University of Wyoming Nordic ski team continues. The women's team won the national championship last week. That's the third championship in four years. Co-coach Christi Boggs says going in they knew the team was strong. The men's team also did well, finishing second and only trailing the winner by a single point. The coaches also point out the men won the relay event for the first time ever in a very close race. Boggs says Wyoming's racer only led at the finish by a toe.
