GOP Taking Applications For Thomas Seat

Casper, Wy – The Wyoming Republican Party is taking
applications from people interested in being nominated to succeed
Senator Craig Thomas. The senator died last week.
Party Chairman Fred Parady held a press conference in Casper and says applications will be accepted until Thursday at 5pm. The party will hold a candidates forum on Sunday. The state
Republican Central Committee will meet next Tuesday to select three
nominees.
Governor Dave Freudenthal will choose from the three nominees a
person to fill the senate seat.

Roadless Appeal Denied

Cheyenne, Wy – The state of Wyoming has lost its request
to revive a court order that struck down a Clinton-era ban on
logging and other development on (m) millions of acres of national
forest lands nationwide.
U-S District Judge Clarence Brimmer in Cheyenne has denied the
state's request to reinstate his 2003 injunction against the
Clinton administration's roadless rule.
The rule was enacted in the final days of the Clinton

UW Tries To Be Safer

Laramie, Wy – University of Wyoming officials are working to implement several new safety measures next fall in response to
campus tragedies like the Virginia Tech shootings.
The added safety measures includes an anonymous tip line, a
memorandum of understanding with local law enforcement and faster
communications to alert the campus community of danger.
One new initiative the university is looking at is text
messaging and other ways of getting the word out faster to the
campus community in times of an emergency.
