Enzi's Bill is A Dose of Good Medicine for Wyo. Pharmacies

Laramie, WY – US Senator Mike Enzi is co-sponsoring a bill that will help a group struggling to stay afloat in Wyoming and across the nation...the community pharmacist.

Part of Enzi's bill would ensure that pharmacists are reimbursed for their services every two weeks. The Wyoming Pharmacy Association's Kara Beech supports the plan. She says that right now some pharmacies don't receive compensation for up to 45 days after a transaction. That makes doing business difficult.

WPR Wins Two National Awards

Laramie, WY – Wyoming Public Radio has won two major national awards. Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, PRINDI, named Wyoming Public Radio's program Open Spaces the top News and Public Affairs program in country for a station with a mid-sized staff. The award was announced over the weekend at the annual PRNDI awards ceremony. Judges called Open Spaces an excellent example of how statewide journalism should be done.

Group Encouraged by Chances for Sylvan Pass Winter Opening

Laramie, WY – The leaders of the group Shut Out of Yellowstone say they're optimistic after meeting with top Park Service officials. The group was formed to keep the east entrance to Yellowstone Park open in the winter. The Park Service is considering closing it due to avalanche danger on Sylvan pass. The group's co-chair, Carol Armstrong, says the discussions at last week's meeting were frank, and she hopes the Park Service's decision will go her way.

Preble's Jumping Mouse Could Remain Listed

Laramie, WY – The director of the US Fish and Wildlife Service may keep a rare jumping mouse in the Rocky Mountains on the endangered species list after all.

The Preble's meadow jumping mouse is found in Colorado and eastern Wyoming. Director Dale Hall, is reviewing up to ten decisions made by former Fish and Wildlife official Julie MacDonald.

Wildfire at Idaho National Lab Contained

Laramie, WY – U.S. Department of Energy officials say about 50 firefighters have managed to contain the wildfire at the Idaho National Laboratory in eastern Idaho.

About 700 workers at the lab were told to stay home yesterday because of highway closures due to the fire.

The Idaho State Police intermittently closed U.S. Highway 20 to give crews room to strengthen a fire break designed to keep the fire from jumping the highway. The highway was open last night.

ACLU: Prison Housing Not Enough to Fix Staff Shortage

Laramie, WY – The American Civil Liberties Union in Wyoming says the state's latest attempt to build staff housing for the penitentiary in Rawlins is a step in the right direction, but warns that it won't solve the prison's staffing shortage. Wyoming's Executive Director Linda Burt says housing isn't the only problem keeping workers away.
