Uranium Meeting Next Week

Casper, Wy – Federal regulators are planning a meeting in Casper early next month to hear public comments and concerns about
in-situ uranium mining.
Recent increases in the price of uranium have sparked increased
interest in the mining technique. It uses chemicals to free uranium
from the surrounding ore underground. Water holding the freed
uranium is then pumped to the surface where it's refined.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission oversees the in-situ mining

Jury Selection Underway For Wheatland Man

Greeley, Colorado – Jury selection is scheduled to begin today
(Monday) in the trial of a former Northern Colorado backup punter
accused of stabbing the starter.
Mitch Cozad of Wheatland, Wyoming, is charged with attempted
first-degree murder and second-degree assault in an attack.
Punter Rafael Mendoza was stabbed last September in a dimly lit
parking lot outside his apartment. Mendoza suffered a wound in his
kicking leg.

Enzi Proposes Several Health Reforms

Laramie, Wy – Wyoming's Senior Senator is pushing ten ideas to reform health care in the country. Mike Enzi has worked with a bipartisan group of Senators to come up with his list that includes paying for medical education insurance reforms and prevention. Enzi is most excited about some insurance reforms that include some tax benefits to individuals to make more money available to people for insurance.

Economist Calls Frontier Days No Boon for Bottom Line

Laramie, WY – One Cheyenne economist says Frontier Days may not supply the economic boom it once did. Dick O'Gara of the Wyoming Center for Business and Economic Analysis says he predicts the 10-day western festival brought in about 80-thousand people and 24 million dollars last week. O'Gara says the money does help the economy by adding jobs. Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Spokeswoman Angie Harper says the city brings in an extra 300-thousand dollars in sales tax every July.
