Uranium Recovery Permit Sought In Campbell County

Laramie, WY – A company planning a uranium recovery operation in southern Campbell County has begun seeking a federal permit for the project.

Energy Metals Corporation is the first company in almost two decades to apply for a Nuclear Regulatory Commission permit for an in situ uranium project.

Rather than digging out uranium ore, the process involves extracting uranium ore from chemicals that are pumped underground.

The process already is being used elsewhere in Wyoming. The NRC received Energy Metals' application earlier this month.

Trauner Returns For Another Run

Casper, Wy – Democrat Gary Trauner is making a second
bid for Wyoming's lone U.S. House seat.
Trauner lost by just over a thousand votes last year against
incumbent Republican Barbara Cubin in his first race for statewide
office.
Trauner is a businessman from the Jackson Hole community of
Wilson.
Cubin was first elected to the House in 1994. She is serving her
seventh two-year term.
Cubin hasn't officially announced her plans for next year, but
recently said at this point she intends to seek another term.

Group Leads Discussion About Medical Errors

Cheyenne, Wy – Many people believe that medical errors drive up health care costs. That is because they typically lead to lawsuits which can raise doctors insurance costs and that can be passed on to consumers. The group common good is looking for a solution to the issue. Paul Berringer of Common Good says his group has been studying the issue and is trying to craft some overall solutions.

Meth use down, cocaine up

Laramie, WY – The director of the state's division of criminal investigation says he's seeing a fewer methamphetamine-related cases this year, but an increase in cocaine cases. Forrest Bright says the percentage of meth investigations is at its lowest point since 2000, when DCI began tracking the numbers with their current method.
