Missoula, Mt. – A federal judge says gray wolf hunts in the Northern Rockies can go on, denying a request by environmentalists and animal welfare groups to stop the first
organized wolf hunts in Idaho and Montana in decades.
U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy said Wednesday that plans to
kill about 20 percent of the two states' estimated 1,350 wolves
would not cause long-term harm to the population.

Laramie, Wy – Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, are expected to be in Laramie for the upcoming dedication of the new Cheney International Center at the University of Wyoming.Protesters plan to be there, too. Several hundred people say they plan to protest the University of Wyoming's acceptance of money from such a controversial figure.
The center for international students and Wyoming students
studying abroad is funded in part with $3.2 million the Cheneys
donated to the university. A dedication ceremony is planned

Wyoming – The National Republican Congressional Committee has added Wyoming Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis to its Patriot Program. That's considered by many to be a watch list of vulnerable Republican incumbents. The Committee helps these incumbents raise money and get ready for their re-election campaign. But some in the state are wondering why Lummis is on the list at all. Wyoming Public Radio's Addie Goss reports.

Wyoming – A Yale University Philosophy and international affairs scholar was in Laramie this week talking about health care. Thomas Pogge says some 18 million people die annually from poverty related causes, a lot of it due to inadequate health care and the lack of available medications. Pogge is the co-creator of a plan called the Health Impact Fund. He talks with Wyoming Public Radio's Bob Beck.

Wyoming – The University of Wyoming faced a rough summer. The school cut over $18 million from its existing budget to address a state budget shortfall. It also removed 45 positions. But at the same time enrollment has been increasing, the campus is wrapping up some major construction projects and it is receiving and is moving forward on a number of important energy and science related projects. University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan joins Wyoming Public Radio's Bob Beck to discuss the state of the University.

Wyoming – University of Wyoming's football season starts Labor Day weekend. But already fans are looking forward to the game next week against the University of Texas. The Longhorns are ranked number two in the nation and will be the best team to ever play in Laramie. The game will be a sell-out, attracting 28,000 fans, and it should be a huge boon to the local economy. But, as Wyoming Public Radio's Renny MacKay reports, there is a push to create a longer lasting connection between UW sports and Laramie businesses.

Wyoming – Acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns and co-producer writer Dayton Duncan have been filming America's national parks for the past 6 years. Their six-episode series, "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," traces the creation and evolution of national parks over 150 years. Wyoming Public Radio's Rebecca Huntington talked with Burns and Duncan about their new film when she caught up with the filmmakers in Yellowstone National Park earlier this year.
