Wyoming U.S. House race close

Laramie, Wyo. – Many in the state are wondering whether Wyoming will see its first Democrat elected to Congress in 30 years.

U.S. House candidates Gary Trauner and Cynthia Lummis are in a dead heat heading into the weekend. University of Wyoming Political Scientist Jim King believes that Democratic candidate Trauner has the momentum since he is getting his share of undecided voters in this vastly republican state.

Meth lab found in Laramie

Laramie, Wyo. – Authorities say that a failed drug test by a Laramie man on probation led to the discovery of a large methamphetamine laboratory in the city.

Laramie police say they arrested 47-year-old Christopher Watkins on Wednesday after workers with the Office of Probation and Parole found a methamphetamine lab in the garage of his home.

Commander Mitch Cushman of the Laramie Police Department says the meth lab was one of the largest he's seen. Cushman says police searched Watkins' home after he failed a drug test.

UW reaches agreement with GE on coal plant

Laramie, Wy – The University of Wyoming and General Electric Co. have reached an agreement on how to develop a coal research plant.
The plant will allow research into coal gasification and "clean
coal" technologies. It will use coal from Wyoming's vast reserves.
Wyoming is the nation's leading coal producer.
The Wyoming Legislature this spring put up $20 million for the
project, which officials have said could ultimately cost $100
million.

Mockler out of the hospital and will finish campaign

Cheyenne, Wy – State Senator Jayne Mockler has left the hospital more than a week after doctors opened her chest to repair a damaged lung. Mockler is running for mayor of Cheyenne. She says the she expects no long-term damage to her health. Meanwhile, Mockler dismissed her opponent's criticism that 15 years in the Legislature has left her unable to effectively run the city.
Mockler- I come from more of an elected by the people kind of structure, work your way up, represent them, give them a voice. That very difference tells you how differently we will manage and govern.

A new imposter pulls a woman over

Casper, Wy – The Natrona County Sheriff's Office reports another incident of a man pulling over motorists while pretending to be a law enforcement officer.
Sgt. Mark Sellers says a man driving a gray pickup truck
equipped with a flashing yellow light pulled over a Gillette woman
on Highway 259, between Midwest and Interstate 25, at about 7 a.m.
Thursday.
The woman demanded to see identification and refused to get out
of her vehicle when the man couldn't produce any. Sellers says the
man pulled out a gun.

Air Force admits to fire

Cheyenne, Wy – The Air Force Space Command says a fire broke out in a silo containing a Minuteman III missile outside Cheyenne, Wyo., last spring, but the military says there
was no danger of an accidental launch.
The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs says the Space Command
released a report on the fire Thursday. It was the first public
disclosure of the incident.
Space Command spokeswoman Maj. Laurie Arellano says the fire was
caused by a faulty battery and extinguished itself from a lack of
fuel.
