Cheyenne, WY – Wyoming's congressional delegation is condemning part of President Obama's budget proposal that could cut future payments to the state from the Abandoned Mine Land fund.

The program uses taxes on coal production to clean up abandoned mine sites and for other projects. Wyoming is receiving $100.7 million during the 2009 fiscal year as part of the program.

Wyoming's delegation says Obama's budget proposal released Thursday would terminate payments to coal-producing states that have completed mine clean-up.

Cheyenne, WY – Gov. Dave Freudenthal has signed into law two bills that help to define Wyoming's regulatory structure for the underground storage of carbon dioxide gas.

Freudenthal on Thursday signed House Bill 57, which establishes that the right to mine or drill for resources would have precedence over the right to store carbon gas underground.

Freudenthal also signed House Bill 58. That bill specifies that whoever injects carbon gas underground remains legally responsible for it.

Cheyenne, WY – The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal from Wyoming's lone death row inmate.
Attorneys for Dale Wayne Eaton had petitioned the nation's highest court in December to consider his case. On Monday, the petition was denied.
Eaton was convicted of the 1988 kidnapping, rape and murder of 18-year-old Lisa Marie Kimmell, whose hometown was Billings, Mont.
He still has other options for appeals.
Wyoming last executed a prisoner in 1992.
